Despite ‘Threat To Democracy’ Claims, Fewer Journalists Died Under Trump Than Biden Or Obama

Joel Simon, a former director of the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), claimed in an Aug. 26 piece in Vanity Fair that former President Donald Trump presented grave threats and risks to the freedom of the press and, by extension, the safety of journalists attempting to perform their work. Data from his former organization, however, indicates Trump presided over a period of fewer fatal attacks on journalists due to their work than his predecessor and successor. CPJ seeks to “defend the right of journalists to report the news safely and without fear of reprisal,” according to its website. …
